Last week, the National Football League kicked off its second season of NFL+ Premium, their streaming video subscription service. This year, the NFL’s premium subscription will include live streams of the NFL Network and NFL RedZone along with live out-of-market preseason games (across all devices), primetime regular season and postseason games (phone and tablet only), live local and national audio for every game, NFL Films’ archives and more.
“We launched NFL+ last season to further grow our direct relationship with millions of fans,” said NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell in an August 10, 2023 news release. “The response was excellent. And as we embark on the second season of NFL+, we are excited to add NFL Network and NFL RedZone and provide greater access to football content for NFL fans everywhere.”
For a limited time, subscribers can save 20% on an annual subscription which is $39.99 a year for NFL+ and $79.99 for NFL+ Premium, which includes RedZone.

This is the first time that RedZone will be a direct-to-consumer offering, available outside a cable or satellite subscription package, The Verge reported. The league said the move is to help the league further develop a relationship with fans after the success of NFL Game Pass. Since their OTT service has grown, it has shown the NFL where their consumers are, and they want to help meet that demand.
However, this is not the end of the line for RedZone being offered to cable subscribers, the league said in a press release. RedZone will still be offered to cable subscribers, as well as those who use satellite, telco, or streaming pay television subscribers.

Insider Take
The NFL wants to have it all, attendees at live games and viewers on all devices in all markets, plus features. For die-hard football fans, there are many options and price points available. For the NFL and the networks and streaming services they partner with, they get an opportunity to reach more fans and diversify revenue. They took what they learned last year and are expanding it this year – a great strategy for any subscription company!
