Readly, an all-you-can-read subscription service for digital magazines, has just announced a new deal with AT&T. As part of AT&T’s customer appreciation program THANKS, eligible wireless customers will get exclusive access to Readly Select, giving them free, limited-time access to four digital magazine titles per month on up to five devices. Customers can choose from 2,000 U.S. and international magazine titles, and get access to both current and archived issues. Customers can change their selections each month.

“Creating Readly Select specifically with customer loyalty programs in mind made working with AT&T THANKS an obvious choice. It has been a real pleasure working closely with the AT&T THANKS team. We are extremely excited about the launch, and what this collaboration will mean for AT&T’s Wireless subscribers and for our publishing partners,” said Per Hellberg, CEO of Readly, in an announcement.

“Readly is able to provide AT&T wireless customers with exclusive access to thousands of digital magazine titles, while our publishing partners expand their readership to a massive new base of U.S. readers,” Hellberg added.

Readly Select subscribers can upgrade to a Readly premium paid subscription at any time. According to the announcement, upon completion of the free access period, customers will have the option to pay for a Readly Select subscription or upgrade to Readly Premium, the company’s unlimited digital reading service for a flat monthly fee.

“AT&T THANKS is all about appreciating our customers by showing our gratitude through a range of entertainment experiences and service enhancements,” said Neil Andrews, director of product marketing management, AT&T Entertainment Group. “Our collaboration with Readly will unlock the huge range of titles in the Readly app for our customers to enjoy across all of their mobile devices.”

The promotion will run through June 28, 2017. Eligible customers who sign up for Readly Select by that date will get a free subscription for six to 18 months, depending on their level in the AT&T THANKS program (blue, gold or platinum). Other limitations apply. AT&T customers can go online to check their eligibility.

Launched in 2012, Readly has regularly added publishers and magazines like Forbes, Newsweek, Rolling Stone, ESPN, Shutterbug, Ok!, Inc. and more to its vast collection of magazine titles, available to subscribers for $9.99 a month after a free trial. Subscribers get unlimited access to thousands of magazines that they can share with their families on up to five mobile devices. Magazines can be downloaded for offline reading.

Insider Take:

After five years in business, Readly has maintained the same price point while adding thousands of issues of popular magazines to its reading library. As magazine lovers, we love the expanded library as well as the price point. We still love the tactile feel of magazines, but a digital subscription is a great way to read many magazines for one low cost. And they’re so portable – no more stacks of magazines weighing down our carry-on luggage when traveling!

This deal with AT&T will get Readly in front of a new audience of millions of AT&T wireless customers which will likely expand its customer base and grow its recurring revenue, increasing the company’s value, even if modestly. There doesn’t seem to be a big risk involved, and if AT&T customers give Readly a try, both companies stand to win. Other subscription companies should consider similar low-risk-high-reward partnerships.
